For over 65 years, the Muncie Symphony Orchestra has been an essential part of the fabric of the Muncie Community. Beginning in the 2015 | 2016 season, the Muncie Symphony launched a new community partnership called Together in Music. This project was immensely successful reaching thousands of area residents. Through generous funding, the MSO is excited to announce that Together in Music will continue to bring great classical music and arts education to the Muncie Community.
Together in Music strives to share our passion for live symphonic music and to cultivate new relationships throughout our community. With the focus on early childhood and family education, members of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra are visiting our community centers, public libraries and family-friendly public events to give live performances, offer information about our instruments, share books about composers and the instruments of the orchestra, and
give students the opportunity to experience playing a variety

A Presenter will read a copy of a specially selected music book to your students, provide a short performance demonstration on their instrument(s), and/or teach students about select music topics. Book Reading presentations are typically 20-25 minutes.
Instrument Petting Zoo (Recommended Ages: All Ages, ages 3+)

Visitors to our Instrument Petting Zoos will be given the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of various instruments. Our staff will help guide participants to explore the various parts of the instruments and make a sound. On average, participants spend 2-5 minutes on each instrument. An average classroom of 30 students can try 1-3 instruments each in a 45-minute class period. The instruments offered are dependent on staff availability, and scaled to the number of participants.
Music/Instrument Presentation (Recommended Ages: All Ages, ages 3+)

A professional musician, music teacher, or BSU student will provide an educational music presentation. We also offer duos, trios, and other small groups of instruments. These presentations are often included as part of the PreK-1st group book readings, but can be done as standalone presentations for any age group. Presenters will provide a short performance demonstration on their instrument(s), teach students about select music topics, and/or a Q & A session. Presentations can be adapted to emphasize topics such as Rhythm and Meter, Pitch, Musician and Audience Concert Etiquette, Careers in Music, Music History, etc. Presentations can range from 20-45 minutes or more, and multiple presentations can be scheduled back-to-back.
