Picnic Contest is back!
Bring a picnic created in a “Movies” theme and enter a contest to win cool prizes.
Location: Ball State Arts Terrace
(Rain location): Ball State Alumni Center

Parking is free on Saturdays in all BSU parking garages or along Riverside Ave.
Picnic Contest Information:
Don’t forget to register your picnic for a contest at the registration tent as you arrive. No advance registration is required. Picnics will be adjudicated by chefs and/or community members. Prizes will be awarded during MSO concert intermission in 3 categoroes:
1) Most Creative Menu
2) Best Use of the Movies Theme
3) People’s choice
Use your imagination in your picnic menu or picnic set up and win prizes! The theme is MOVIES!
Participating picnics will be registered between 5:30pm and 6pm at the registration tent and the adjudication will take place between 6pm and 7pm with winners announced during concert intermission.
Everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic with movies theme in mind, but participation in a contest is optional. It can be a menu from some famous movies, or a whole scene from a movie; the picnic spot could be decorated with movies theme in mind, you could dress up as movie characters, there could be signs explaining how the picnic is related to the movies, or no explanation provided. Anything goes, no limit to your imagination. Individual or family or group entries are accepted. After picnic contest participants register at the registration tent as they arrive, they will receive a helium balloon with a number to identify their picnic spot for judges and for public. It should be fun! 
Picnic contest prizes by Big Lots, Amazing Joe’s Grill, Muncie Liquors, Friendly Package Liquors, AMC Showplace 12, Foister’s Flower and Gifts, Lahody’s meat, Winks and Drinks glassware by Becky Collins, and Muncie Symphony League.
Admission to the festival and picnic contest entries are FREE.
Bring your own chairs or tables to enjoy your picnic and live orchestral music from the movies or rent a table and 8 chairs from Muncie Symphony League volunteers for $20. Call MSO to reserve a table 765-285-5531. Reservations deadline is May 30.
Arts Fair and Display Booths
The Arts Fair, hosted by the Muncie Arts and Culture Council, will be from 5:30-7:00pm and the Muncie Symphony Orchestra concert presented by Kitselman Fund and Community Foundation will begin at 7pm.
Participants of the Arts Fair can walk around and enjoy activities, multiple performances, signing up for door prizes, and interact with artisans, organizations, and the public. At 7:00pm the concert will start and will make for a grand finale to the event.
The Muncie Arts and Culture Council is coordinating the Arts Fair and are providing all booth and activity space at no cost to artisans and arts/culture organizations. Any arts group or individual artist is encouraged to setup a FREE booth that you can spotlight your work, activities, sell pieces, register for programs, etc. MACC is offering additional space with your booth for you to provide entertainment and/or an activity that can make the Arts Fair a fun and festive atmosphere for the public. We are also asking for door prizes of artwork, gift certificates, coupons, etc. where you will be spotlighted in a main stage announcement. Even if you are not able to have a booth at the event, we welcome door prizes from everyone. Booth load in time for the festival is from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm. The deadline for organizations to sign up for the Festival on the Green is Wednesday, May 30th at 5pm.
If you are not an Arts/Culture Organization, but would still like to showcase your small business or your nonprofit organization you also have the opportunity for a display booth. Cost is $20 fo businesses and $10 for nonprofit organizations. Reserve your booth by calling MSO office at 285-5531.
Public will have a chance to sign up for door prizes at the Arts Fair.
Instrument petting zoo will be available for children of all ages to have a closer look at various instruments. Children are encouraged to touch, blow, pluck, bow and strike the instruments displayed! 
Meet our Guest Conductor for the Festival on the Green 2012:
LAWRENCE RAPCHAK
Lawrence Rapchak is in his tenth season as Music Director of the Northbrook Symphony
Orchestra (IL). He appeared with The Chicago Symphony and led The Chicago Philharmonic in three unique educational programs for the Ravinia Festival, one of which featured an original work of his own which was released on CD.
Mr. Rapchak has served as Music Director of Chicago Opera Theater for five seasons. He conducted COT’s recording of Menotti’s The Medium, of which the British Opera - The Rough Guide said “this performance is so rivetingly theatrical, and much of the praise should go to Lawrence Rapchak for his powerfully atmospheric direction,” and Le Monde De La Musique wrote “Lawrence Rapchak conducts this compact drama perfectly”.
Mr. Rapchak has conducted the Rochester (NY) Philharmonic, Marion (IN) Philharmonic, as well as four series of community concerts with The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He also served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Northwest Indiana Symphony, Music Director of Chamber Opera Chicago for eight seasons, and has guest conducted the Czech Radio Orchestra and the Louisville Orchestra in concerts and recordings of his own works.
His orchestral work Saetas was commissioned and premiered by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Jarvi in 1997. The same work was subsequently performed by both the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. His works have also been performed by the Detroit Symphony, the Omaha Symphony and the National Orchestral Association in Carnegie Hall.
He is listed in the authoritative Baker’s Biographical Dictionary of Musicians, edited by the late Nicholas Slonimsky, and is currently in his 20th season as pre-concert speaker for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.Mr. Rapchak resides in Whiting, Indiana with his wife, Celeste, and their three whippets, Lucy, June-Bug and Macanudo.
